About The Ledger Stack
The Ledger Stack is an independent testing publication for the software that solo bookkeepers and small accounting firms run their practices on.
We are testers, not accountants. What we bring is a lab: every tool we review gets a real trial account, and every trial runs the same fictional client's books — the same transactions, the same receipts, the same deliberately messy bank feed. When a review says one tool caught our duplicate transactions and another didn't, that's not an impression; it's a result you can see in the screenshots.
Where a review needs the working bookkeeper's view — what a workflow feels like at client #14, which support team actually answers — we quote practitioners and say where the quote came from. We don't claim experience we don't have.
How the site makes money
Some outbound links are affiliate links, and they're disclosed on every page that carries them. We have no employer in this industry and no vendor relationships to protect, which means we can and do publish negative verdicts. Commissions never touch the methodology: every tool faces the same books.
